Turning a problem into an opportunity, that's what Engie Electrabel did at their recent move in the heart of Brussels. Thanks to the help of Out of Use, the energy company managed to process 14,000 kilograms of e-waste, save 400 tonnes of CO2 and donate more than 600 screens to charity. Read here how this sustainable collaboration came about.

How it all started

At the end of 2022, Engie Electrabel had to move out of one of their office buildings. This meant clearing 13 floors full of IT equipment. Instead of throwing these devices away, Engie Electrabel decided to have them removed and processed by Out of Use, a company that specialises in reusing and recycling electronic waste.

The importance of responsible business

By engaging Out of Use, Engie Electrabel demonstrated its commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility. Out of Use ensured that all appliances were dismantled and disposed of safely and responsibly. This not only meant that Engie Electrabel was contributing its stone to the environment, but also that the company complied with legal obligations for handling electronic waste.

"I would absolutely recommend 'Out of Use' to anyone who needs these services! I myself am very satisfied with both the response times (fast) and the teams on site. They are very professional and flexible according to the evolution of requests."

Impact on the environment and our society

Thanks to Out of Use's efficient and environmentally friendly approach, Engie Electrabel was able to recover more than 14,000 kg of e-waste. But that's not all. Engie Electrabel decided to donate 624 monitors and 58 desktops to @Circular.Brussels, a non-profit organisation affiliated with Out of Use with the aim of closing the digital divide in Belgium. By donating the monitors to Circular.Brussels, Engie is actively and directly contributing to a more inclusive society. In addition, thanks to the lifetime allocation of these devices, more than 400,000 kg of CO2 (!) will be saved.

"We are very pleased with these results. I would like to thank Out of Use for their professionalism and flexibility, it was really a pleasure to work with them. It wasn't the first time, and won't be the last.

The benefits of cooperation

This project is an excellent example of how companies can work together to promote environmental sustainability and reduce electronic waste. By choosing to donate used IT devices instead of throwing them away, companies can have a significant positive impact on the environment and help promote the circular economy.
